Specialized Gum Recession Treatment

Gum Grafting

Gum grafting is a surgical procedure that uses a tissue graft to cover the exposed tooth roots. Tissue grafts can either be taken from a donor source or from the palate (roof of the mouth). The graft, which involves incisions to be placed at the treatment site, is sutured to the gum tissue and allowed to heal over 4-6 weeks.

Tunneling technique

The tunneling technique reverses gum recession without the need for incisions. With special tools, a space is created between the gum tissue and the bone, then a tissue graft is placed behind the gums and sutured in place. Healing is faster as no incisions need healing.

Pinhole® Surgical Technique

The Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive alternative to gum grafting. Using specialized tools, a small “pinhole” is created in the gum tissue so that the gums can be repositioned back over the teeth, without incisions or grafts. The technique is fast and effective, with a quick recovery and no grafts or sutured tissue needing healing.

A big thank you to Dr. Darby. From the first step in the door to the last step out, every aspect of my visit with Dr Darby and staff was exceptional. The people at the front office were very professional, friendly and communicative. I had a vertical fracture that was quite painful. The first dentist I saw nearly sent me through the roof during the initial exam and made me terrified to consider treatment there. I then went to Dr. Darby and that pain free experience was like night and day. I also liked that Dr Darby was very thorough and spent time explaining the issues, discussing my options and making sure I felt completely comfortable. My husband and I spend most of the year in California but if I need any other dental procedure like the one I had, I'll be back in Ocala to see Dr. Darby.

A visit to the Periodontist should not be scary for anyone. People think the worst and since I was a patient of Dr. Johnson this year, I want everyone to know that going to a periodontist is not all that bad!. I had sedation gum surgery and felt NO pain. There were several follow up appointments and I have to say that from the first visit to the last, I felt like I was well taken care of. The staff is wonderful. The Periodontist was fantastic. I just can't believe that I had dental gum surgery and it never hurt. So, don't delay, call Dr Johnson and meet him and his staff. They will take good care of you!

I was very pleased with the care I received from Dr. Darby. He took a lot of time with me to discuss what he thought my problem was, what the possible treatment options would be and then did exactly what he said he would do. He and his staff were very kind and thoughtful and always made me feel comfortable. When I needed to contact Dr. Darby about a prescription, he took my call himself on a Saturday afternoon and called in the prescription I needed right away. The surgery went very well, and I did not experience any pain or problems due to the techniques he used. I have been "released" as of today, as he has done all that was needed, and did not push any unnecessary treatments on me. I will highly recommend him.
