Improve Smile Symmetry

Aesthetic crown lengthening improves the appearance of the smile by restoring symmetry between the teeth and gums. Depending on your situation, we may only need to remove and reshape the gum tissue, or we may need to also remove a portion of the bone before moving the gum tissue into a more aesthetic position. When we’ve found a good tooth-to-gum ratio, we’ll gently suture the gums into place around each tooth. Your beautiful, symmetrical smile will be evident immediately, though the treatment site will need a few weeks to fully heal. Your gums will not grow back around your teeth, leaving you with a stunning smile you can feel confident in for years to come.

Restore Tooth Function

Sometimes, our crown lengthening procedures are due to more functional reasons. A tooth that needs a dental crown or treatment for decay or damage may need excessive gum tissue removed first. If a tooth has been damaged beneath the gum line, crown lengthening will create access to the tooth so it can be repaired. If a tooth needs a dental crown, crown lengthening removes a portion of the gums and bone so the restoration can be attached properly without harming the tissues. Functional crown lengthening is a surgical procedure, so you’ll need a few weeks to heal fully. With restorations or treatment completed, you can once again enjoy a comfortable, functional smile.

A big thank you to Dr. Darby. From the first step in the door to the last step out, every aspect of my visit with Dr Darby and staff was exceptional. The people at the front office were very professional, friendly and communicative. I had a vertical fracture that was quite painful. The first dentist I saw nearly sent me through the roof during the initial exam and made me terrified to consider treatment there. I then went to Dr. Darby and that pain free experience was like night and day. I also liked that Dr Darby was very thorough and spent time explaining the issues, discussing my options and making sure I felt completely comfortable. My husband and I spend most of the year in California but if I need any other dental procedure like the one I had, I'll be back in Ocala to see Dr. Darby.

A visit to the Periodontist should not be scary for anyone. People think the worst and since I was a patient of Dr. Johnson this year, I want everyone to know that going to a periodontist is not all that bad!. I had sedation gum surgery and felt NO pain. There were several follow up appointments and I have to say that from the first visit to the last, I felt like I was well taken care of. The staff is wonderful. The Periodontist was fantastic. I just can't believe that I had dental gum surgery and it never hurt. So, don't delay, call Dr Johnson and meet him and his staff. They will take good care of you!

I was very pleased with the care I received from Dr. Darby. He took a lot of time with me to discuss what he thought my problem was, what the possible treatment options would be and then did exactly what he said he would do. He and his staff were very kind and thoughtful and always made me feel comfortable. When I needed to contact Dr. Darby about a prescription, he took my call himself on a Saturday afternoon and called in the prescription I needed right away. The surgery went very well, and I did not experience any pain or problems due to the techniques he used. I have been "released" as of today, as he has done all that was needed, and did not push any unnecessary treatments on me. I will highly recommend him.
